Off to Santa Fe

Next week I’ll be in Santa Fe for the juried portfolio reviews at Review Santa Fe. I’m very much looking forward to this — this one has been a challenge for my work to resonate with the jury in past years, but apparently the eighth time is the charm! I look forward to getting comments on my work and to seeing the work of all of the other photographers that were selected.

I’m going for a little extra time, too, to photograph some of that gorgeous New Mexico scenery.

If you are in the Santa Fe area and want to check out all of the work, there is a portfolio walk featuring all of the photographers on Friday night, October 19th, from 6-8 pm. Those events are always a great chance to see a wide variety of work up close and personal. Hope to see you there!

Critical Mass 2017

Rice Moon I

Rice Moon I

Critical Mass has always been one of my favorite contests, and I'm proud to be included as one of the Top 200 finalists this year (the final 50 of these will be announced next month). I submitted a selection of my Adventures in Celestial Mechanics series this year, and if you are curious as to my group of ten that I submitted, I've included them below.

I was also extremely happy to see so many friends and clients on the list, too, including (but not limited to!) Diana Nicholette Jeon, Kent Krugh, Amy Rockett-Todd, Sean Sullivan, Peter Ydeen, and Jane Yudelman.

Soho Photo Gallery National Photography Competition

Prelude #4

Prelude #4

I'm a bit late in mentioning this, but one of my pieces is included in the National Photography Competition exhibition at the Soho Photo Gallery in NYC. I'm particularly excited that juror Aline Smithson awarded my photograph the Third Place price as well. I wasn't able to make it to the opening, but if you are in NYC you can see the exhibition through July 22nd.

New York Center for Photographic Art

"Codex Natura #17"

"Codex Natura #17"

I'm excited to be included in an exhibition in NYC opening this coming weekend (which I won't be able to attend, unfortunately). The exhibition, originated by the New York Center for Photographic Art and hosted at the Jadite Gallery, is based on the Macro - 2015 exhibition. I have two pieces from my Codex Natura project in the show, with one first prize and one juror's selection.

I'm also happy to report that one of my photographs was a juror's selection in the Same But Different 2016 exhibition, which you can see online here.

Critical Mass Finalist

I've also been remiss in mentioning my recent selection as a finalist for the 2015 Critical Mass Awards. Congratulations also to other finalists, including Christopher Chadbourne, Kathryn Oliver, and Ralph Hassenpflug!

More about this tomorrow, but I submitted a new body of work for this competition. Stay tuned for more details...

Artist Residency at Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona

I'm honored to have been selected as one of the 2015 Artists-in-Residence at Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona. The park, situated in southeast Arizona, is well-known for its dark skies, and I can't wait to photograph a landscape that is pretty much the opposite of the Maine landscape I've come know so well.

My residency is the first half of November, roughly speaking. I've never been to the park so I definitely look forward to checking out that area. I've include a photograph from many years ago in Utah -- not to be misleading, but it is the closest photograph I have to the landscape that awaits me in Arizona.

The New Masters

I'm a bit late in mentioning this, but I was very honored to be included in the recent list of the New Masters from the Maine Home+Design 2015 Art Issue.

The list, put together by Susan Grisanti and Bruce Brown, highlighted artists in Maine "who are beyond being newly discovered and on their way to becoming the next group of Maine masters". All such lists are of course subjective, but I'm pleased to be in good company with the many fine artists on the list.

I'm quite honored to have my photograph Pyrotechnic #141 selected as the Grand Prize winner by juror Debra Klomp Ching at the recent Wandering Curves exhibition with the New York Center for Photographic Art. My Pyrotechnic #35 photograph was also selected as an Honorable Mention.

The exhibition is an online one so you can peruse all the selected images. These look so much better in print, of course! You can see my Pyrotechnic series on my website and if you'd like to see it in person, please contact me and we'll set something up.
